Background

Rea, a self described AudioVisionary, is a freelance sound enginner who has appreciated working around a multitude of venues across Liverpool.

A stage performer, recording artist and musician, Rea has a unique insight on how operations work on and off stage for events, shows and technical support. Some career highlights include building EuroVision, providing technical support for the Labour Conference, setting up stages for Sound City and the role of musical director for an original pantomime at Hope Street Theatre.

While sound and music is her main focus, Rea specialises in music videos and audiovisual media. This can be seen in her own music videos where strange concepts are conjured to push boundaries in themes that explore feminism, ethnic minority and queer identity. In 2023, Rea released her debut visual EP ‘Where Are Your Gods Now’ which premiered at FACT Cinema and showcases her penchant for the western genre. Her music has featured on BBC 1Extra, BBC Introducing, Melodic Radio, RadioLab and various radio stations across Latin America. As a pianist and saxophonist, she is a cross genre fanatic when it comes to music; you can expect her sound to pay homage to Latin, funk, blues and house. She has recently finished a year long residency as a pianist at Whisky and Water as part of blues duo, Dusty Echoes.

A true creative at heart, Rea conceptualises, plans, executes and creates her work from start to finish and loves passing on skills that will raise your own work to industry standard. Rea excels at understanding ideas and elevating them while staying true to the original vision. She is involved in higher academia and holds a BA (Hons) in Audio Production, an MA in Music and Audiovisual Media and most recently, an MA in Immersive Media. Rea also freelance lectures undergraduate students at ICMP Liverpool and has held masterclasses at SAE Liverpool.

She blends skills of mixing, mastering, storyboarding, filming, editing, producing and directing to intimate productions where she's able to bring her visceral visions to life. Colour, lighting and film theory are in her wheelhouse, crossing the bridge between aural and visual media. She has collaborated in various ways with up and coming artists in the UK such as Rebelyous, Reuben George, DJ Kwale, Alun Parry, Monaé and Issy Sutcliffe. Rea also prides herself on working with local artists and recently featured on Fai McCabe’s 'Breaking Silence' project; an exhibition to raise funds for RASA Merseyside. She has also worked with playwright group, That Bunch Of Weirdos, to musically direct and feature in their first pantomime production. She highlights the value of working with local creatives and actively creates platforms and opportunities in her personal projects for creatives to obtain work in their desired field.

Outside of these disciplines, Rea is a circus and aerial artist - therefore she is constantly traversing the otherworldly and unconventional which lends to her creative process. She recognises performing under pressure and enjoying the learning process while putting her own stamp on the finished product.
